Current Information:Age-39 Born-Hackney Etaples Military Cemetery 11th Middlesex arrived in France in June 1915 as part of 36 Brigade, 12th Division and during the night of 3rd and 4th July, 1915, they began their first six day tour in the front line in trenches just south of Ploegsteert Wood. Over the next six days they had 21 casualties of whom 6 were killed, all by either snipers or shellfire. They were relieved on the night of 9th and 10th July. It is not known when Private Hayward was wounded but he had been evacuated back to the coast before he died. |
